Four suggestions:

  1. Check out all the elements of this website—particularily the racing videos..Yes, these boats can sail in 30mph gusts!!
  2. Come see us at Platwood Pond Park on Route 80 – a couple of miles west of Route 9 (Exit 5),Deep River , CT...You will find us there on Sundays from 1030 AM until noon and Tuesdays from 600-700PM…You will find a great group of sailors who are always willing to give a hand.
  3. Try sailing a CR-914..We have a loaner we can make available at the pond. All you have to do is call me .
  4. Become a member of the Dry Pants Model Yacht Club(DPMYC)..Just send us the Membership Application and $25.00…It’s a bargain for the enjoyment you will have.

Our primary boats are CR-914s---great vessels that are raced on a nationwide basis..We also have very active EC-12 and Star 45 sailors.....Irrespective of your interest , our goal is simply to have a whole lot of fun.

New to RC sailing?..Our Club takes great pride in developing new sailors who want to learn..It’s amazing how quickly you can move from a transom chaser to becoming a contender.

We look forward to meeting you..Or, just contact me with any questions you may have in the interim

CR-914CR-914 CLASS

The CR-914 is a strict one design radio controlled model yacht class. This model is manufactured by AG Industries in Japan and is distributed through Chesapeake Performance Models www.rcyachts.com. The hull is made from ABS plastic and is molded with the deck attached. Each boat is identical so from the first boat out of the mold in 1994 to the newest one being delivered today they are all the same.  The result is a class of boats with identical speed potential. The goal, as in any good one-design class, is to have the skipper's tuning, tactics, and boat handling abilities determine the outcome. The CR-914 is 914 mm (36 inches) in length over all, 6 lb 4 oz displacement, with approximately 600 square inches of sail area. Tuning, tactics, and concentration are critical to racing success. These boats tune similar to a big boat although, during the race, class rules limit trim to sheets and rudder only.

The CR-914 is a very responsive model that reacts quickly to the wind with bursts of acceleration up onto a plane down wind and turns on a dime.    The boats size allows the owner to travel with the boat fully rigged in a small car.The CR-914 is the DPMYC principle fleet with more than 20 boats. The CR-914 is not the least expensive model yacht in its size class but is by far the best sailing.  The kit is fully inclusive except for batteries and requires approximately 10-12 hours putting the kit together.
