Plattwood Park is owned and operated by the town of Deep River Parks and Rec. Dept. The pond itself, along with a number of sister ponds in the area, were man made and created as a result of quarrying of the site by a local contractor several years ago.

The Dry Pants Model Yacht club was attracted to the site because of a rather consistent South Westerly breeze that dominates the wind patterns in the area during our sailing season. The pond is set up perfectly for this wind direction and as a result, we have posted the course for the event. Baring some unusual weather pattern, we expect the breeze to blowing from the South West + or - a few degrees.

While in the park

Please park in the area past the control area and be mindful not to block the comings and goings of possible spectator traffic.

Bathrooms are located in the pavilion at the end of the parking area. This will be a short walk from the control area. There are no other buildings or shelters on the site so be prepared be out in the weather. Our plan is to race no matter the weather conditions so you are responsible for your own foul weather gear during the event. Some small 10x10 tents will be on site but these will belong to the committee so do not plan to take refuge in these tents. You are more than welcome to bring your own shelter but please limit in to similar structures or seek refuge in your car. The town of Deep River has been very supportive of our activities at the pond and this is our first event at this site and we want to make every effort not to upset the town by having a small city of tents in a public park.
